Words from the back cover by the author/artist Sandra Wright… Women have always been a theme in my work. In my artwork and writing, I’ve explored their anger, silences, and lack of a sense of power. It is a privilege for me to bring together my two passions—art and poetry—in She Be Queen. I hope to tap into choruses of other women’s voices through my own journey. Finding power is a path all women may not get to experience, but sometimes I’ve been favored in my search that will never be finished. From the deep-rooted anger of youth to middle age, unacknowledged ghosts haunted me, but I was still able to be a weaver, artist, and poet teacher. And now a poet. My first awakening began when I moved to New Mexico and continued in Thailand, where I spent the last ten years of my life in Chiang Mai. I call Thailand my “spiritual growing up place” and New Mexico my “soul home.” In both places, spirit and people have been my teachers. In 2020 I returned to nurture my deep roots to Taos, New Mexico, to continue to discover, and to explore the treasures of my life.
